The Art Of Belt Tying

The Art of Belt Tying

I have probably asked ten different black belts how to tie a belt. I have gotten ten different answers. Although there may be one correct method there are many variations. Different techniques seem to work for different people. This is only meant as a guide. It is very hard to learn to tie a belt properly from a web page. Just ask an instructor at school and experiment. If you ever get a really good method then e-mail me because I don't think I'll ever figure it out.

§        Hold the belt in the middle with the ends hanging evenly.

§        Place the middle of the belt against your belly button.

§        Wrap it around once and bring both ends back to the front.

§        Bring the left end up to the middle.

§        Overlap the right end up and then tuck it behind and under both layers.

§        Pull both ends out making sure they are both even.

§        Tie a square knot by bringing the right end under and over the left.

§        Pull both ends even and make sure the knot is in the middle.

§        Make sure the belt ends are even and that the decided stripe hangs to the right.
